Vitae:

Dr. William G. Brown is 67 years old and has been a college professor since 1972. He is an ordained Episcopal Priest and prior to that he served 33 years as a Roman Catholic Priest. His wife’s name is Linda and she is a Minister of Education for the Episcopal Church. They live in Frankfort and in June they will have been married ten years.

Bill has a doctorate in Theology and a master’s degree in philosophy. He has been at Midway for ten years. In addition to teaching, he is also one of the Vice Presidents of the College and the Dean of the School for Career Development, which is the evening, co-educational college division of the College. He has been in college administration since 1972 having served 14 years as President of a Seminary and then as professor and Dean.

Bill lived in Europe (Rome, London, Paris and Nuremburg) for five years (1965-1970) and in Israel (Jerusalem) for fourteen months (1982 – 1983). He is pretty familiar with living with diversity.

His hobbies are magic, photography and cooking.

Ed Crowley is an adjunct professor in business who teaches Economics, Marketing, and Seminar II (Business Planning). Mr. Crowley is the founder of the Photizo Group, a marketing intelligence and consulting firm which tracks the imaging industry for Wall Street clients such as hedge funds, mutual funds, and other institutional investors. Mr. Crowley has over 20 years experience in key marketing and management positions for firms including Texas Instruments, Lexmark International, and IntelliQuest. Mr. Crowley has also played a key management role in three start-ups, including a successful initial public offering. His expertise areas lie in the development of New Product Development and Strategy organizational capabilities, the imaging industry trends and competitive environment, and technology marketing.

Mr. Crowley is a regular speaker at industry conferences and has spoken at over fifteen conferences to date including five international conferences in England, Thailand, Indonesia, Holland, and Malaysia. Mr. Crowley is a prolific writer and is the technology editor for the Product Development and Management Association’s Visions magazine in addition to writing a regular column for the OnDemandJournal.Com. Mr. Crowley has also been published in the Journal of Product and Brand Management, the Journal of Professional Services Marketing, ProductMarketing.Com, Quirk’s Market Research Review, and other leading publications.

Mr. Crowley has a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics (with a Computer Science Emphasis) from the University of Missouri – Columbia, and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton Texas. He currently serves on the national certification committee for the Product Development and Management Association.

Johnie Dean is an adjunct music professor at MIDWAY COLLEGE and MIDWAY COLLEGE ONLINE. Dr. Dean joined as an adjunct faculty member in the 2006/07 academic year. Johnie Dean has worked as a church musician for over thirty years, as well as teaching at the college / university level for ten years. He taught at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL, as well as Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY. Presently, he is part-time faculty at the University of Kentucky as well as adjunct faculty at Midway. Dr. Dean also serves on staff at the NorthEast Christian Church in Lexington, KY.

In addition to these duties, Johnie is the Assistant Conductor and Assistant Accompanist of the Lexington Singers. As a prolific composer and arranger, he writes for the Lexington Singers and the Lexington Philharmonic as well as other choirs and orchestras around the country. As a published composer and arranger, his most recent works include three piano hymn arrangement collections published by FJH Publishing Co., Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The titles are: Piano Prayer and Praise, Amazed in the Presence, and Classical Piano Worship.

Winner of numerous awards in both writing and performance, Dr. Dean is well-represented in sacred catalogs with over 200 works having been published for piano, adult and children’s choirs, handbells, orchestra, and instrumental ensembles. He also serves as a frequent choral adjudicator, vocal coach, vocal soloist, accompanist, and guest conductor.

Dr. Dean received his Bachelor of Music degree in voice and church music from Campbellsville College in Campbellsville, Kentucky, and his Master of Church Music degree in piano, music theory and composition from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. His Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition was granted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.

Vitae:

Thomas P. Egan is an instructor in the Organizational Administration and Leadership program at Midway College. Dr. Egan joined the faculty at Midway during the 2002-2003 academic year. Dr. Egan is a sociologist trained in the area of complex organizations in modern societies. He has taught various sociology courses and so brings the strengths of knowing world cultures, in a global economy, to bear on a study of organizational management. He is also trained in organizational theory, organizational research and statistics; and thus brings the skills of reviewing and conducting research on organizations to Midway’s OAL program.

Dr. Egan has worked in education as an instructor for his entire career. He has a total of 5 years experience as a tutor, and 29 years of teaching experience. As an undergraduate student he tutored students and as a result can understand the student’s perspectives relative to different types of faculty. He has taught in a variety of college and university settings from The University of Kentucky to some of the state’s community colleges. For several semesters early in his career he taught inmates at the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women, and staff at the LaGrange Reformatory (men).

Dr. Egan received his B.A. in Sociology from Bellarmine College (now Bellarmine University), his M.A. in Sociology from the University of Louisville; and his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in Organizational Sociology. His dissertation combined case study and participant observation research strategies to conduct an in-depth study of a small business organization in regard to its strengths and weaknesses.

Vitae:

Linda Eldridge is an assistant professor at Midway College located in Midway, Kentucky. Linda began her teaching career in 1983 and taught six years at Kentucky State University in Frankfort before joining the faculty at Midway College in 1989. Prior to that time, Linda was employed by Kentucky State Government in various data processing roles.

Linda received her Bachelor’s degree from Kentucky State University in Computer Science. She also received her Masters in Public Affairs with an emphasis in data processing from Kentucky State University. She has completed additional computer coursework at Eastern Kentucky University and Sullivan University. Linda served in the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP) program as a teacher educator since 1988 and serves on 2-3 interns’ committees each academic year.

Linda lives in Frankfort, Kentucky with her husband, Terry. They have one grown son.

David W. Hardin has been an adjunct at Midway College since 2003. Mr. Hardin has taught several business courses along with related Health Care courses. In addition, he was also an adjunct at the University of Kentucky. Today, all of the courses that he teaches are on-line since he has just re-entered the corporate world.

Throughout his career in the business world, Mr. Hardin has played strategic roles in finance, marketing, business development and general management. He has led key strategic initiatives in each of the organizations that he has been a part of. His focus has been on team development to promote needed organizational change.

Mr. Hardin currently is a general manager for a large corporation that looks to expand its customer service reach to a higher level and desires to improve on both a domestic and international basis. He resides in Georgetown, KY with his youngest son who is a senior at Scott County High School. His oldest son graduated from Ohio State University and later received a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of South Carolina.

Mr. Hardin received a BA in Political Science and an MBA from the Ohio State University.

Vitae:

Dr. Janice L Holland is an assistant professor of Equine Studies at Midway College. She joined the Midway faculty in the fall of 2004. Dr. Holland teaches a variety of courses in equine studies, including Introduction to the Equine Industry, Equine Science, Equine Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, Forages, Feeds and Feeding, and Equine Behavior. In addition, Dr. Holland has taught Practicum courses, Principles of Horseshoeing, and Topics in Equine Management.

Before becoming a part of the faculty at Midway College, Dr. Holland was an assistant professor at Salem International University, and was also the Director of the Equine Studies program there. She has also been an equine research associate at Virginia Tech, and worked at a large mixed-animal veterinary practice in northern Virginia. During her time as a college professor Dr. Holland has also served as an expert witness in court cases, consulted farms on feeding and management practices, and been a member of a variety of committees, including the Board of Directors for the West Virginia Horse Park, and a sub-committee of undergraduate research.

Dr. Holland received her B.S. degree from the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) with a major in Animal Production. She earned both her M.S. and PhD from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Animal Science with a specialization in Equine Science. Her areas of research included acceptability and digestibility of fats, effect of high-fat diets on behavior, weaning stress, and pasture intake and digestibility. Dr. Holland is also a Registered Professional Animal Scientist, and holds memberships in the Equine Science Society, American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists, and American Society of Animal Scientists, as well as other associations. This past year she was awarded the Trustee Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Mark D. Johnson is the Senior Minister of Central Baptist Church (www.lexcentral.com) in Lexington, Kentucky. He has degrees from Lexington Theological Seminary (D.Min.- 2001), Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.-1985) and the University of Kentucky (BA in Psychology - 1981). He is has been an Adjunct Professor with Midway College (2001-present) and the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky (2005-present). He makes his home in Midway, Kentucky with his two teenage sons; Kyle and Neal.

Priscilla McCowan is an adjunct professor at Midway College since 2001. She has also been an adjunct professor at Kentucky State University and the Kentucky College of Business. She has held various training positions in Kentucky state government for over 22 years. In that time, she has taught over 25 workshops of various topics.

Ms. McCowan got her B.A. at Centre College of Kentucky in 1983 and went on to get her M.P.A. at the Kentucky State University in 1990. She also earned her Certificate in Management Fundamentals in 1999.

Vitae:

Milton Toby is an attorney, mediator, and author who lives in Georgetown, Kentucky. His practice emphasizes the representation of Death Row inmates and equine law, an admittedly unlikely combination of interests, and he also serves as a special education hearing officer for the Kentucky Department of Education. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Kentucky College of Law, where he was Editor in Chief of the Journal of Natural Resources and Environmental Law. He has been in private practice since 1995.

Before becoming a lawyer, Toby worked as a journalist and professional photographer in the United States, China, Costa Rica, and Colombia. He is the author of five non-fiction books—Col. Sager, Practitioner; Ruffian; Understanding Equine Law; Understanding Equine Business Basics; and the Complete Handbook of Equine Law and Business—and numerous magazine articles on legal topics.

Toby taught business law online at the graduate level for the University of Phoenix and he presently teaches Equine Law at Midway College in Midway, Kentucky, and at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Lexington, Kentucky.

Dr. Tumlin was drawn to Midway College because of the opportunity to positively influence young women on their academic journeys in the equine industry. At Midway, she develops and instructs courses in reading scientific literature, senior research projects, farm business and office management, manual therapies, introductory practicum, special topics in animal mentation, equine selection and evaluation.

Dr. Tumlin has a broad base of research interests with emphasis on characterizing the effects of physiotherapy on horses, applied management and equine health, and assessment of equine educational programs. She assists students in developing research projects that take place of the course of a semester. Examples of these projects include conducting surveys of Thoroughbred farms to determine pest protection and control practices and characterizing motivation and job satisfaction of English and Spanish speaking farm employees. Other projects include focusing on behavior and training research to assess the effects of color on bonding preferences in pastured horses and the effects of gender on pasture behavior and on task learning.

Her research projects in the physiotherapy field have focused on characterizing alterations in physiological responses, and assessing behavioral responses to therapy treatments.
